If I was the Devil

If I was the devil,

I would make distractions so good

to make it impossible to turn toward inner truth.

I would invent politics,

turning neighbor against neighbor.

Then create further division

by separating them into groups and genders

women against men,

sons against fathers.

I would make women envy their daughters,

longing for eternal youth.

I would make everything so easy

that effort becomes worthless,

while giving them an overlord to blame.

I would make them ask for permission

to do anything on their own land,

then demand more taxes.

to make the heart of their cities unsafe,

I would stack them into high-rises,

keeping them from the land

driving them into guilt

and misunderstanding nature.

I would create fake food

And call it healthy

I would keep them in fear,

always anxious by a tragedy a world away.

I would teach children

That spirits don't exist

And they must face the world alone

I would turn Art into ideas,

then turn ideas into cults.

I would demonize the medicine man

using nature’s gifts and his hands,

then turn medicine into poison.

I would deprive them of color, form, and chaos

in exchange for order in a sanitized world.

I would use religion to keep enlightenment away,

turning priests into businessmen,

using children as currency.

And in all this suffering,

I would turn sacred drugs into entertainment,

making them so easily available

that they become zombies

prisoners of their own flesh.

And make them forget

that even a seed

needs darkness to grow.
